It was only noon when we all got dismissed. Kids scrambled out the school doors, tripping and screaming. It was the last day of school after all…
But long before that, five kids had been called to the hallway by the principal. We were handed an envelope. “A medal and a letter inside,” the principal said. We all started to cheer and wished to open it when… “Not until you get home, kids,”
We sighed, disappointed. We stuffed the envelopes into our bags and ran back to class, shouting that we got a medal. But back to the last day of school…
We were so sad for we had heard bad news from the principal and our parents… four of five of us were leaving the school, and it could affect our entire lives. But if we wished to learn more we’d have to make this final decision…
“Go.”
This would be the last time I saw my friends… I would leave them forever. But I had no choice. And I was going to have to go. It would benefit my intelligence. It would benefit me. Everybody was sad to see me and the others go. But I could do nothing about it.
And after that I was transferred to a different school. I couldn’t understand anyone. This was all new.
And now, more than twenty weeks into this school year, still I’d remember this day…
